Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa in Belgian Draft Horses
نویسندگان
چکیده
The mutation responsible for Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa (JEB) in Belgian draft horses in North America and other draft breeds in Europe has been identified. The mutation, a cytosine insertion (1368 insC) in the LAMC2 gene, results in absent expression of the laminin γ2 polypeptide chain of laminin 5. JEB is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test has been developed to identify carriers of the mutation using mane and tail hairs. Since October 2002, this test has been available to breeders of Belgian horses in the United States and Canada through their breed associations.

Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa in Belgian Draft Horses in North America: Results of Genetic Testing (2002–2012)
Junctional epidermolysis bullosa (EB) in the Belgian draft horse and other draft horse breeds is a genodermatosis inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. The mutation responsible is a cytosine insertion (1368 insC) in the LAMC2 gene, which results in the absent expression of the laminin -2 polypeptide chain of the heterotrimer laminin-332 (previously laminin-5). A polymerase chain reaction (...

Epidermolysis bullosa are a group of hereditary skin diseases manifested as blisters on the sites of trauma to the skin. According to the level of blister development, epidermolysis bullosa are divided into the following groups: epidermolysis bullosa simplex, junctional epidermolysis bullosa and dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. The latter two groups are associated with poorer prognosis and hig...

BACKGROUND Epitheliogenesis imperfecta in horses was first recognized at the beginning of the 20th century when it was proposed that the disease could have a genetic cause and an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern. Electron microscopy studies confirmed that the lesions were characterized by a defect in the lamina propria and the disease was therefore reclassified as epidermolysis bullosa. ...

Epidermolysis bullosa is a rare inherited bullous disease with unknown prevalence in most parts of the world. In Saudi Arabia the reported studies regarding epidermolysis bullosa are very limited. This paper presents the first study of epidermolysis bullosa cases from the Western province of Saudi Arabia. We studied 15 cases of inherited epidermolysis bullosa and classified the cases based on e...
